The Chicago White Sox traded away Dane Dunning and prospect Avery Weems to the Texas Rangers for Starting Pitcher Lance Lynn. The White Sox had been linked to Lance Lynn since the deadline in the shortened 2020 season. A much needed boost in the rotation for their #3 starter. The rotation is taking shape, but still needs to be rounded out. You have 3 of the top 7 Cy Young finalists from 2020 now in your rotation. You still have Cease who will be working extensively with pitching coach Ethan Katz and Michael Kopech coming off a hiatus in 2020 and fully healthy. I still see Kopech starting in the minors to work out any kinks, so you are starting the year with an open spot or unfortunately, Reynaldo Lopez. The strong belief is that Reynaldo Lopez will be a bullpen arm under Ethan Katz guidance. Time will tell.
The White Sox made another, not so surprising but angering move, for an outfielder by the name of Adam Eaton. You know Adam Eaton, the punchline of the 2016 White Sox and noted Drake LaRoche supporter. Yes he was on the 2019 World Series Nationals and played a big part for them, but his offensive production is down according to the baseball stat people. Again I go off the eye test, and let me say, yikes. You hope this is a 4th OF move, but where does that leave Adam Engel. AAA? Engel is not your everyday RF, but neither is Eaton. Could we see Engel as part of a trade or a reserve in AAA for any injury concerns? Do they really expect their fans to be happy with Adam Eaton in RF? Of course they do. The fact they gave him $7 million up front with a 2nd year option for $8.5 million is very confusing. Hopefully there is another move waiting in the shadows and this can ease the concern.
