DeMar DeRozan becomes 50th NBA player to score 20,000 points.
20,000 is a pretty large number, and a pretty rare one in the NBA. Tonight, on a midrange jumper of course, DeMar DeRozan became one of just 50 NBA players to score 20,000 points. It’s an elite class-only about 1% of all NBA players such as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant have made this list.
Thirteen full seasons through and DeRozan is looking better than ever during his time with the Bulls. Last season he scored his highest season point total (2,118) ever in his career. So while the bulk of his points came as a Toronto Raptor (13,296), the impact is at an all time high on the points he’s scoring now, especially with Zach LaVine taking games off for knee management.

In between his tenure with the Raptors and the Bulls, DeRozan was a San Antonio Spur, ironically the team the Bulls played tonight. This meant that another NBA legend was in attendance for this historic event: Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. Pop is no stranger to accomplishments but is as selfless as they come. That was on full display after he called a timeout immediately following DeRozan’s stat-clinching bucket so DeRozan could be recognized.

This is just another time to be giddy about the fact that DeMar DeRozan is a Chicago Bull. While Bulls fans are no stranger to record-breaking players donning the uniform, that doesn’t make DeRozan’s time here any less special.
So congrats to DeMar DeRozan on becoming the 50th player to hit 20,000 points in the NBA. Thrilled that it happened in a Bulls uniform.
