SCOTTSDALE, AZ — It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Cactus League baseball.
During this offseason, many White Sox fans were incredibly disappointed that the Sox did nothing but get rid of stars such as Tim Anderson and Liam Hendriks and sign old heads such as Max Stassi and Mike Moustakas. To wit, the Sox really just assembled a roster of 40+ players vying to stay in the big leagues lest this season be their swan song.
But it is exactly this desperation that propelled the White Sox to their 8-7 victory over the Seattle Mariners yesterday, February 24, 2024, in what is surely the biggest game of the season.
Many may be thinking, “but who cares? Spring training games are meaningless!” To which we here at ASS would say: you don’t know ball.
Any true ball-knower knows that spring training games are what makes or breaks a season. The earlier the wins, the better. Fake ball-knowers would say that it is what happens after the All-Star break that affects a team’s post-season bid the most. But that’s why those people are fake-ball knowers, not real ball-knowers like us here at ASS.
And that’s exactly why the White Sox are so BACK. I mean, winning their second spring training game after an 8-1 loss the day before? That’s the comeback mentality we need. That’s #TWTW baby.
So go ahead, put your entire 401(k) on the White Sox 2024 World Series. Liquidate your home equity. Drain your baby’s college fun. You’ve sat through endless rebuilds, you deserve it. See you at the parade.
