This blog, unlike a few others I’ve done, is not clickbait. Look, we all have the same goal as a fan, we want the White Sox to win games, right? Can they win all 162 games, then 11 more in the playoffs to win the World Series? Technically yes, but is it possible? Also technically yes. It’s just not probable, so why do we nitpick every single loss? Well, because that’s how sports work for those who get invested. I find myself going over a box score, remembering specific moments that could have or should have been different, in my opinion. It can truly make for an insane social media experiment of who hates to see a loss more. There is the portion that send hate messages to players, their families, and spouses. These are the worst type of “fans”, by a wide margin. We do not accept them, or want them, in the fandom we support. That is the only “gatekeeping” allowed. There is the portion that takes every loss in stride and tries to find the positives. Example, a player breaking a slump, or a rookie having better plate discipline, that can make the game watching enjoyable, even if the result is a loss. Then there is the portion, like myself, who goes to twitter, criticizes everything that went wrong and posts the Larry David meme with a White Sox hat and say “fuck you and I’ll see you tomorrow”. Critiquing managers, players, pitchers, umpires, indirectly while being reasonable in your language, is normal. Once you step over the line, and start using hate speech, you need to log off, forever. I have seen wide ranges of grief after a regular season loss, and all are interesting in their own ways. I don’t have much more to say on this other than, DO NOT DIRECT MESSAGE A PLAYER OR THEIR FAMILY WITH DEATH THREATS YOU PSYCHOPATH. ESPECIALLY OVER A REGULAR SEASON GAME THAT DOESN’T DIRECTLY EFFECT YOUR LIFE IN ANY WAY AT ALL.
